Rohan's
kids lost their mother in early 2008. Rohan earns between 1,500
and 3,000 rupees a month and works as a handicraftsman. The family
used to be well-off, not rich but comfortable, and they
lost everything, including their house, to pay for mom's laboratory
tests and doctor visits, as nobody could figure out what was
wrong with her. After many doctors, the last one determined HIV/AIDS
and referred them to the local HIV clinic for treatment, but
it was too late.
Rohan and his kids now live in
a tiny rented house in a slum area in Mysore. Dad, also +, is
being treated for tuberculosis. His daughter tested
positive for HIV, and the two sons are negative. The kids, ages
eight, six, and five, are adorably cute, happy and playful, healthy
looking, and go to school everyday. |
